Estudio del pretratamiento alcalino del meollo y su efecto sobre el crecimiento bacteriano

Abstract

The alkali pretreatment of bagasse and pith enhances their biodegradabifity by c;ellulolitic bacteria which produce protein for animal consumption. Factorial statistical design was used to study the effect of temperature, air flow, alkali concentration and reaction time over bacteria!, specifk growth velocity and the recovery of solid after the chemical pretreatment. The significan coefficients showed the convenience of decreasing the temperature an the air flow in order to obtain good solid recovery, higher specific growth velocities, and a higher solid consumption after the fermentation. The best results were obtained at 90-lOOºC, but never the loss we obtained losses of 20-30% of the fermentable polysacharides. Bacterial, specific growth veiocities of 0.145 hr-1 for the first step of the diauxic growth and 0.04 hr-1 for the second step were obtained.
