ISOLATION AND SELECTION OF STRAINS OF INHIBITOR-PRODUCING ACTINOMYCETES OF DNA GYRASE

Abstract

Actinomycetes strains (273) from Cuban soil sam­ples were isolated. A preliminary screening among tbem for pro­ducers of DNA gyrase inhibitors was carried out. The isolation procedures were carried out as Stated in the guidelines of the Inter­national Project of Streptomyces and antibiotic susceptibility tests in accordance with the NCCLS. Out of 110 antibiotic producing strai.ns, three were selec1ed as producers of putative inhibitors of the enzyme. The morphological and cultural characteristics evi­denced that these strains are different among themselves and from
Streptomyces niveus.
