Abstract

Severa( psychological models have been postulated for describing reading process, however, until now objective indicators have not been used far studying the physiological bases of reading and understanding reading dysfunctions. In this paper reaction time and event related potentials were recorded during the readingof a list of word pairs. In this list three factors were manipulated: semantic congruence, completencss of words and presence or absence of visual noise. Reaction time results indicatc that word pronunciation time can be separated into two stages, each one affected by different factors. l lowevcr, endogcnous components reccrded have been affectcd in a more complex way. which indicate that the simple model of two sequential stages cannot explain this proccss. In fact, it was discuss these rcsults upan a more complicated model.
