Abstract

Castor bean plant (Ricinus communis L.), is a Euphorbiaceae, which has some qualities that make it a promising plant to complement cosmetic activity, and its use for medicinal purposes, among which the use of castor oil as a laxative stands out. This crop is also recognized for having a significant nematicidal activity against different plant parasitic nematodes, which are the main phytosanitary problem in various crops and cause high mortality. This review examines some of the most interesting topics in which this plant is involved, such as crop management, pests and diseases, obtainment of castor oil, determination of ricin in the cake, as well as nematicidal and insecticidal activity
