This contamination can cause filter blockage, component corrosion, sludge formation, and loss of energy performance, generating operational risks and high maintenance costs. This article presents a comprehensive review of the state of the art on the use of nanotechnology and nanobiosensors for the rapid, accurate, and real-time detection of microorganisms in jet fuels. The available diagnostic technologies, the progress achieved in Cuba in the development of nanostructured platforms, and the associated regulatory and toxicological challenges are described. Emerging nanobiosensors stand out as an advanced technological solution, capable of detecting microorganisms and their metabolites quickly, sensitively, and specifically. The results demonstrate their potential as a strategic tool for microbiological monitoring in fuel storage facilities, with direct implications for air safety and industrial sustainability.
Silvia L Acosta-Diaz , Yamila Navarro Sosa, Mary Elizabeht Sánchez Labrada Copyright (c) 2026 Copyright (c) 2026 Revista CENIC Ciencias Químicas https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/ https://revista.cnic.cu/index.php/RevQuim/article/view/4280 Fri, 30 Jan 2026 00:00:00 -0500 BIBLIOGRAPHIC REVIEW ON HYDROCARBON POLLUTION IN MANGROVES: IMPACTS AND MITIGATION STRATEGIES https://revista.cnic.cu/index.php/RevQuim/article/view/4296
Hydrocarbon pollution in mangroves poses a significant environmental threat to the biodiversity and functionality of these ecosystems. This review examines the impacts of hydrocarbons on mangroves, identifies sources of pollution, and discusses existing mitigation strategies, including bioremediation. It emphasizes the need for effective policy implementation in Cuba to safeguard these critical ecosystems. The review is grounded in recent studies and offers recommendations for future research and conservation initiatives
Naylen Marrero Juliá, Yamila Navarro Sosa Copyright (c) 2026 Copyright (c) 2026 Revista CENIC Ciencias Químicas https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/ https://revista.cnic.cu/index.php/RevQuim/article/view/4296 Wed, 15 Apr 2026 00:00:00 -0400 SERVICE LIFE STUDY OF FOUR REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES USING NON-DESTRUCTIVE ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES https://revista.cnic.cu/index.php/RevQuim/article/view/4298
A study on the service life of four reinforced concrete structures, located in an urban zone of the Portoviejo canton, Manabí province, Ecuador, was carried out. Non-destructive testing, without ruling out the use of destructive testing, was used. To estimate the service life in the four reinforced concrete structures was de main objective in the research study. To evaluate the concrete quality used in the building of the four structures. To demonstrate the most influential factors in the intensity of corrosion current as an indicator of atmospheric corrosion in the reinforcement steel embedded in the reinforced concrete were the specific objectives. The results allowed us to estimate that the four structures are within their service life project, perhaps not reaching their service life final and residual, confirmed by visual observation. It is possible then that, the carbonation phenomenon occurrence alone did not compromise the service life project of the structures without the presence of high chloride concentration mainly soluble chloride ions. Everything seemed to indicate that the Ic values were not reliable. The four structures are located in an urban zone at great distances from the coastline or the surf zone. Furthermore, it was shown that the carbonation front did not reach the reinforcement steel/hardened concrete paste interface zone.
Juan Daniel Pacheco Delgado , Juan Carlos Guerra Mera, Raúl Vinicio Hidalgo Zambrano Copyright (c) 2026 Copyright (c) 2026 Revista CENIC Ciencias Químicas https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/ https://revista.cnic.cu/index.php/RevQuim/article/view/4298 Wed, 15 Apr 2026 00:00:00 -0400
