Abstract

In this paper the Radioisotopic Analysis method was applied to study the ion exchange process of 60Co2+, 85Sr2+, 137Cs+ and 144Ce3+ in zeolitic rock samples from "El Piojillo", "Orozco", and "Palmarito" deposits. A valorization from the point of view of the phenomenon related to the thermodynamic behaviour ofthis ion-exchange process was performed and the sorption curves and the equations of the systems in the process were obtained. The selective arder for the studied radioisotopes in their interactions with these materials was established (Cs+ > Sr2+ > Ce3+ > Co2+). This selectivity is determined mainly by the order ofthe ionic radio ofthe correspondent ions. Ion-exchange capacity by batch methods was determined. The ion exchange process of Cs+ with the natural ions of the zeolite from "El Piojillo" is also reported. The isotherms from this process were also obtained. The behaviour obtained in this ion exchange process was an important scientific result, because it was shown, that it is possible to obtain similar conclusions with the isotherms ofionic exchange and simple curves of sorption. The procedure described by Kielland-Barrer was applied to determine the equilibrium constant (K) and the free energy (DG) ofthe ion exchange.
