Abstract

The atmosphere in Cuba is considered very agressive due to the tropical-humid climate and to the presence of salinity in the atmosphere over almost all thc territory. In this paper the valucs of corrosion rate were determined for periods of 1, 2, 6 and 12 months in a year in two atmospheric test sites. The biggest values ocurred in the period September-March. Simultaneously with the exposition of specimens to the atmosphere, concentration of chloride ions was determined. Concentration of S02 and meteorological parameters were available. Individual' and multiple correlations were made among mean monthly corrosion rates and different meteorological parameters. The corrosion rates determined in six months period were very similar for specimens exposed in summer and winter. These results being quite different than those obtained in other countries. X-Ray analysis were made to corrosion products, goethite and lepidocrocite were found as main products.
