Abstract

We studied the production of manganese II sulfate from residues of cuban mines, where it appears as beta MnO2 in concentration lower than 35%. After grinding and sieving, the mineral is subjected to a reductive process under several conditions of reducing materials, temperature, time and concentration. In the laboratory scale experiments we used separately as reducing agents, propanc-butane mixtures, carbon black, bagasse, bagasse powder, sawdust, and sulfurous acid. All these processes, except the last one, require a further lixiviation with H2S04 and in a following stage of purification we could obtain manganous sulfate solutions appropiate to our purpouse: preparation of homogeneous mixtures suitable for industrial production of gamma MnO2. Besides different results obtaincd with diverse operational parameters, we analyze the different stages with emphasis in experimental details,
