Abstract

Pitting corrosion of stainless steel has been studied by many authors, although results obtained up to this moment do not come to definitive conclusions. In the present paper we studied the influence of structure determined by different thermic treatments on the sensibility of X18H10T to pitting corrosion. The investigation was carried out using Optic and Electronic Microscopy, X-Ray and chemical and electrochemical pitting corrosion tests in standard solutions. We found that a thermic treatment of 30 min. at 1200ºC, water cooling, notably improve resistance to pitting corrosion of this material.
