Abstract

Three bacterial copolymers, poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate), [P(HB-xHV)], with different proportions of hydroxyvalerate
were characterized by NMR spectroscopy. The composition of each sample was determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy and some aspects of their microstructure were analyzed by the carbonyl signals in 13C NMR spectra. The differences between the values of the products of the reactivity relations (r1r2) calculated in this work and the literature reports for the same system are interpreted as an
evidence that the natural synthesis of these copolymers does not occur by copolymerizations reactions.
