Abstract

(Hydroxy-2-propyl)-1-methyl-2-nitro-5-idazole, C1H11N303, is an antiparasitic drug whose generic name is secnidazole.
This compound is an effective therapeutic agent against protozoa such as Entamoeba histolytica,I to Giardia lambia y
la Trichomona vagina/is. 1 Medication with secnidazole is the therapy of choice against these protozoa since it
results in a short and effective treatment, without the drastic side effects caused by metronidazole and other
imidazoles. The mechanism through which secnidazole and other drugs from the group of nitroimidazoles exert their
antiparasitic action has not been fully elucidated, 1 nor has its crystalline structure been reported, which is the
fundamental objective of this work. This study allowed to characterize the formation of hydrates and hydrogen bonds
in it.
