Abstract

Plasticizers are organic compounds, that are added to polyvinylchloride (PVC) in ordcr to improve its flexibility. The rnost important 􀃈food grade" plasticizer is dioctylphtalate (DOP). Because of its toxicity, it is sometimes substituted by dioctyládipate(DOA). In this work, a procedure to identify and determínate these plasticizers in PVC is described. The principie of tbis method is the extraction from PVC with organic solvents and gas chromatography identification and quan­tification. Toe method has good precision and accuracy. Toe limit of detection ís 0,03µgfor DOP and0,06 µg for DOA. PVC articles forfood packaging, medica\ equipment and toys were analyzed Most of them con ta in DOP. The quantity of plasti<'i7Prs is 15 to 40 % perweigh1 PVC.
