Abstract

The anamu (Petiveria alliacea Linn) is a plant of the family Phytolaccaceae known by different names in different Central and South American countries, Caribbean and Africa. It is described as a perennial herb straight stem, little branched from 0.5 to 1 m tall, with alternate elliptical leaves and 6 to 19 cm long. Your flowers They are small white and the fruit is a cuneiform berry presenting four hooks bent down. The plant has been used since the ancient times for medicinal purposes and religious magic rites. Currently used as a herbal medicine for different diseases and is marketed by various firms as a supplement nutritional or as an immunomodulator.
