Sistema de "monitoreo" del electroencefalograma
Abstract
The electroencephalogram (EEG) is a well-known non-invasive tool for objective monitoring of the cerebral function. Traditional methods for EEG recording and analysis do not allow the physician to give instant responses as needed in operating rooms and intensive care units. In such cases, it is necessary to answer immediately to critical situations where the patient's life is in danger. This, has been for long the focus of attention on Intensive Medicine. A great development has been reached in monitoring the functions of Respiratory and Cardiac System. Brainside is a system for recording and online processing of EEG signals, showing automatically topographic maps for Broad Band Spectral Parameters (Absolute and Relative Power). These measures can be
compared to self normative data previously calculated on the patient's EEG or to a group of normative data with subjects between 5 and 95 years of age. A history with all the maps calculated during the recording can be displayed in every moment at user's request. The recorded EEG and Broad Band Spectral Parameters are stored also on disk allowing many further outline analysis. Other tools are offered for a more detailed off line analysis among them: amplitude measurements, voltage topographic brain mapping, raw and Z-transformed values display for the same patient, different ways of comparisons, etc. A module for handling the patient's files and another one for printing the results are also included. The system is designed to run over MEDICID equipment.
