Abstract

The capacity of macrophage in vitro to release selectively their lysosomal enzymes has been demonstrated in recent years. With
the use of cytochemicaI reaction of acid phosphatase the lysosomal enzyme release could be demonstrated in macrophages which presented opened phagolysosomes with_ extracellular reaction product closely associated to plasma membrane. Our results showed that culture of mouse peritoneal rnacrophages exposed to group A Streptococcal Cell Wall Substance (PPG) release sel'ectively their lysosornal enzymes. The enzyme release is minimal at one hour of begining phagocytosis and was evident at 3 hours later.
