Abstract

Macrophage culture were supplemented for 72 hours with increasing concentrations of heat inactivated newborn calf serum  (10, 25 and 50%). As expected there was an increase of lysosomal enzyme synthesis related to the concentration of the serum. I immunocomplex was added to culture plates with different concentrations of serum and lysosomal enzyme activities. They phagocytosed and cligested the immunocomplex at the same rate. These results strongly suggest that the intracellular activity of acid hydrolases is not a factor limiting intracellular degradation.
