Abstract

The functioning of a new advanced culture media was studied quantitative and qualitatively for che fast analysis of to­tal and fecal coliforms in waters in 24 h, using a total of 47 sam­ples from sources of driuking water which supply Havana City.The results obtained through this new method, based on the detection of two enzymatic markers B-galactosidase and B-glu­curonidase were evaluated using as a reference method the fermen­tation system of multiple tubes recommended by APHA, turning out that the culture media SAMA is appropriated for the qualitative evaluation of the total and fecal coliforms in waters, as well as, for the quantitative evaluation of fecal Escherichia coli in waters.
