Abstract

The following aminotransferases were detected in cell free extracts of Candida utilis: methionine-ketoglutaric, methioninepiruvic, glutarnic-oxalacetic and glutamic-piruvic. Three of these (methionine-ketoglutaric, glutamie-oxalacetic and glutamic-piruvic) were further studied. These activities are induced in media with methionine as sole nitrogen source the induced to basal enzyme level being different for each aminotransferase suggesting the presence of three distinct enzymes. Consistant with this view is the observation that methionine does not compete as amino donor in the glutamic oxalacetic and glutamic-piruvic reactions. We conclude that we are dealing with at least three distinct aminotransferases in this yeast
