Abstract

The chemical homogeneity of poly(vinylacetate-co-crotonic acid) copolymers obtained via a novel batch autoregulated process based on the presence of two liquid phases, one of which, organic, is where the reaction takes place and the other, aqueous, acts during the reaction as a reservoir of one of the monomers. The basic features of the process are given in the text. A Cuban patent has been applied (appl. 2003-0295). It was demonstrated that the copolymers obtained by the mentioned process show a high degree of chemical homogeneity. The studied copolymers can be used in enteric coatings of tablets that allow the delivery of the drug at a precise value of pH of the surrounding medium in dependence of the chemical composition of the copolymers.
