Abstract

The causes of high brittleness in sorne Fe-Mn alloys, con­taining more than 0,04% ol carbon, were studied. The alloy composition
arnl the heat treatments were adapted in such a way as to obtain high yield strength in a ductil alloy with carbon content up to 0,08%. This content is obtained in- a more economical way by the industry. Fama 25, 35 and 45 swedish steels, semi-industrial and laboratory alloys (elaborat­ed for this work) were analyzed by differential and absolute dilatometry, optical and electron ficroscopy (transmission and scanning mode), macro and microhardness vicker tests, and by tensile and resiliecence mechanical tests. The obtained analysis results befare and after thermic and termomechanical treatments are discussed in this paper.
