Abstract

The use of inorganic sorbents for the sequestration of metallic ions is of great interest from the scientific and
technical point of view. Although it is true that the initial development of knowledge of the phenomena related to ion exchange was closely
linked to the study of aluminosilicates and other inorganic materials, interest in these decreased with the advent
of organic ion exchange resins. However, inorganic sorbents gained popularity again due to the appearance of new
technological requirements for stability against heat and radiation, which are not fully satisfied by them. Currently, numerous inorganic ion-sequestering materials are known and applied, among them, those related to
zeolites, hydrated oxides, salts of heteropolyacids, etc.
