Abstract

Autoradiographic studies have shown thc inmaturity of Gyrus Dentatus (G. D.) of the rat at birth. In our paper, ·we analyze the morphological variations of granular cells and the histochimical changes of its citoplasmatic RNA during the postnatal dcvclopment of rats, in arder to study the stages of postnatal maturation of G. D. Brains of 60 white malc rats of diverse ages between birth and adulthood were processed for histochcmical dcmostration of nucleis acids and far Nissl substance coloration. Our results show that the basal layer of undifferentiated cells of G. D. development is a postnatal phenomenon rather than a peri or prenatal phenomenon, and the characterization of differentiation of ectal arm of G. D. suggest a mechanism of cellular alineation, constituting a stimulus to ulterior development of undifferentiated basal layer. We conclude that citoplasmatic RNA of granular cells increascs from birth to the second week, acquiring the histochemical adult model for this nucleic acid at this age.
