Abstract

He was born in Mexico City in 1945 and completed his basic studies in his country. In his youth he obtained a scholarship to carry out his professional studies at the University of Friendship of Peoples, in the city of Moscow, in the former USSR. In 1968 he finished his professional training as a doctor and researcher in neuropharmacology at said university. Upon his return to Mexico, he organized multiple young scientific research groups in the field of pharmacology and phytochemistry of medicinal plants, such as the Mexican Institute for the Study of Medicinal Plants (IMEPLAM) (1975-1985), which later, in 1986 , became the current State Center for Research in Traditional Medicine and Medicinal Plants of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), organizing multidisciplinary preclinical and clinical studies on the plants most used by the Mexican population.
