Tobacco (Nícoti;ma tabecum Lin), is one of the most important cultures for Pinar del Río province and for Cub,;1. This work was made in arder to get hi9her yields, employlng 7 tobacco varieties: Burley-37, Pelo de Oro, Virglnia-315, Sperght G-28, C-30, Ky-17 and Cr:iollo. The observations were made weekly in 100 plants selected taking into account the phenological period of them. lt was determlned that the period of higher population density of insect corresponds to late seed time. The quantity of grubs was large at high temperature {20 to 24 ºC), and they were located at the middle and low parts of the plant in the growing stage 26 to 44 d after seeding. The more affected varieties were Ky-17 and Spergh1 G-28 with 370 and 309 grubs respectively.
