Abstract

he effect of eight formulations on the integrity of freeze-dried human red blood cells (RBC) was studied. The formulations were made of human serum albumin (HSA), PVP 30k or dextran 40k, combined with glucose and sucrose. The combination HSA 10 % and sucrose 10 % assured the highest post-freezing protection of RBC. No forrnulation guaranteed che cells protection after freeze-drying. lt is suggested to explore the effects of high water linkers in a higher concentration and operational parameters to obtain a lower sublimation rate.
